This is Grand Etang Forest, a sanctuary and nature reserve located in the islands Central Mountain Range. Here lush vegetation, towering mahogany trees, ferns and colourful tropical flowers provide a vivid background to a wide cross section of bird and animal life. If you enjoy trekking, then you will love the trail through the rainforest to reach Bamboo falls. The trek will take you over a private plantation where you will see nutmeg, cocoa, bananas, and many other vibrant tropical plants. It can be muddy and slippery, especially if it has rained recently, so please choose your footwear accordingly. Bamboo Falls is known as one of the most famous and beautiful Grenada’s waterfalls and is certainly worth the 30-minute trek to get there. Fresh local organic orange juice will be available on your return to the Cruise Terminal.

The Marriaqua valley, with its volcanic richness, offers a spectacular panoramic view of what is often referred to as the “island’s breadbasket”. Banana plantations, nutmeg, cocoa, breadfruit, coconut and a multitude of root crops have thrived here for generations. You will visit the Montreal gardens, one of the two premier showplaces of the island’s flora. The gardens contain a wide range of tropical plants. In this tranquil, magical setting, admire the flourishing bougainvillea, frangipanis, hibiscus and the delicate wax like blooms of the anthurium lilies. After the visit you will get back on the coach and continue your scenic drive, travelling through quaint villages and getting a true glimpse of everyday life in these rural communities, where farmers work on the hillsides using machetes. Finally, the drive takes you along the picturesque Atlantic coast and a breathtaking hilltop view of the capital directly above the cruise ship berth.

Continue to Soufriere Estate’s Diamond Botanical Gardens, Waterfall & Mineral Baths, a site steeped in history since 1745. This tour begins with a leisurely drive through the town of Soufrière, bypassing the town square and the Cathedral. Your journey will continue to the Sulphur Springs, known as the Caribbean’s, only drive-in volcano. This historic site is the result of volcanic eruptions over 300,000 years ago. The sulfurous atmosphere is immediately apparent and sulfur water has been proved to have many medicinal properties, so don’t be afraid to breathe deeply and inhale the sulfur laden air. Admire the tropical plants along the pathway and the magnificent waterfall before getting back on the bus. After a short drive you will arrive at the Villa des Pitons Restaurant for complimentary drinks and enjoy local rum or fruit punch while relaxing on the verandah. Be sure to have your cameras at the ready, the view of the two majestic twin peaks soaring out of the sea at Soufrière Bay makes for a splendid photo opportunity.

Embark from Soufrière Dock and venture through the town to the Tet Paul Nature Trail. This guided hike, enriched by island experts, transforms a simple walk into an engaging cultural narrative. As you traverse the trail, your guide will share insights into the island’s ecosystem, traditional remedies, customs, and history. The trail’s panoramic views are celestial, featuring a “Stairway to Heaven” that leads to photo-worthy vistas of the Pitons, St Vincent Island, and Jalousie Bay. Discover the historical Fond Gens Libre, Choiseul, Maria Island, and Vieux Fort. Depart to Soufrière to the estate, where a guided tour introduces you to traditional practices like cassava bread making and coconut de-husking. The tour’s highlight is the mule-driven sugar cane mill, offering fresh cane juice. You’ll receive a briefing before launching into the zip line experience. Glide over the estate, capturing aerial shots of the Pitons and Soufrière, as you zip through banyan, coconut, plum, and mango trees. Your journey starts at the West Coast of Barbados, along the route you will pass through Holetown and Speightstown two typically charming Caribbean towns. Next you will head inland, and your first stop will be at Farley Hill National Park with its Great House ruins and vibrant gardens with a large variety of plants and trees and a spectacular view of the East Coast. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park before going on to discover the East Coast up close. Moving on from here you continue along the coast for a while with another picture stop at Bathsheba, the famous surfing spot in Barbados. Next, stop for a refreshing drink before you drive up the hill to historic St. John’s Parish Church. Enjoy this breathtaking scene one last time, from 800 feet above sea level. From here a short drive will take you to the Airport where you will find your luggage ready to be checked in.

With your luggage securely stored, all that’s left is to recline on a sun lounger, letting the gentle sea breeze and the rhythmic sound of the waves provide the perfect backdrop to your final hours of relaxation before you set off back home.
